The Lighthouse at Thridarangar
The Thridarangar Lighthouse is thought to be the most remote lighthouse in the world and is situated close to the Westman Islands, some 10 kilometers off the coast of Iceland.
Only tall waves of frigid water smashing furiously against the rocks surround this lighthouse, which is perched on a ragged rock in the Atlantic Ocean. The lighthouse was constructed in 1939 on the largest and steepest of the three rocks, measuring 36 meters in height. The name “Thridarangar” means “three rocks” in Icelandic.
The only method to get to the lighthouse from the mainland is via air, making it the most remote and isolated lighthouse on Earth. Because of this, a platform was constructed during construction to facilitate the landing and takeoff of helicopters.
