North London family vloggers The Kabs Family have been taking YouTube by storm since 2017. But one viral video boasting 4.7M views is still making the rounds and leaving viewers bewitched.
Dad, Tay Kabs, and four-year-old daughter Maliya are perched in the front seats of their parked car, play-arguing about old school music. Maliya reveals the crazy extent of her music knowledge, boasting in her tiny voice, “I know Michael Jackson, I know James Brown, I even know Earth, Fire,” which Tay hilariously corrects, “See, there you go, it’s ‘Earth, Wind and Fire.’”
After telling him, “Daddy, can you just put on the music please?” Maliya puts her hand on her heart, shakes her downturned head and clicks soulfully in time like an old lady in a gospel church, before flawlessly singing every word of “That’s The Way Of The World” by Earth, Fire (as she calls them).
It’s always crazy hearing kids sing songs which their parents grew up listening to. But their pure daddy-daughter chemistry is made 10x cuter by Maliya’s adorably confident personality, as she dances to ’70s hits like an adult woman beside her dad who’s clearly thinking, “What on Earth have I created?”
As she takes on the timeless hit like it’s in her lifeblood, Maliya’s adult expressions, childish articulation, and crystal clear love for old school soul tunes are bound to melt Music Man readers like butter, all whilst Tay fakes dead-pan exhaustion for that dash of relatable parenting comedy.
As a hit by Bobby Caldwell comes on shuffle, Maliya exclaims, “This is my tuuune!” while shuffling her shoulders, air-drumming, singing, and acting out every word of the verse. In another outlandish moment, Kool & The Gang’s 1982 classic, “Let’s Go Dancing” blasts from the sound system, and Mali suddenly jumps out the car and begins grooving like a queen on the pavement.
Maliya, now aged six, stars with her sister Taija, 13, brother TJ, three, and parents Tay and Chan, both 33, on The Kabs Family YouTube channel. Together, the family boasts 1.28M YouTube subscribers, as well as 1.4M followers on Instagram, 3.5M on Facebook, and an incredible 4.1M followers on TikTok.
After cementing their success in the online world, both parents quit their jobs to work as full-time social media stars, filling their YouTube page with vlogs and challenges, including an adorable vid of Maliya doing her older sister’s makeup while answering questions posted to them on social media. Mum Chan revealed in a Mirror exclusive, “The best bits for us is spending time together and working as a family. I think because we all do enjoy it so much, it’s great to do something you love and spend time with your family. We’re able to get really more involved in their life, whereas when you’re working, nine to five, you can miss so much.”
Alongside YouTube, the influencer family also stars in various ads and sponsorships, including Colgate toothpaste, Specsavers, and Cantu Shea Butter.
