Oklahoma-born Anne Reburn has created many brilliant videos of her singing that have brought her over 350,000 subscribers on YouTube with over 50 million views. These videos show both her brilliant voice and her ability to harmonise by stitching together multiple recordings. She uses technology to its fullest to create a vocal group all on her own.
In 2016, she released a video of her singing the song “Mr Sandman”. This was a song that was first recorded by Vaughn Monroe & his orchestra in 1954. It was popularised by its inclusion in Back to the Future, being played when Marty goes back to the 1950s. Reburn, born in 1995, brought a modern touch to the classic song with her video.
With over 9.5 million views on YouTube, this has become Reburn’s most popular video. Even Reburn herself has been astonished at the video’s success, saying, “It’s my most popular cover and I still don’t really know why, but thanks to the mysterious YouTube algorithms that suggest it so much.”
Reburn first took to making videos when she found herself floundering with a “real job” that she felt didn’t afford her any creative outlet. She took to YouTube to present her own songs, as well as cover versions, including “Mr Sandman”. Other popular videos she has made include versions of “How Deep is Your Love” by the Bee Gees and “The Lion Sleeps Tonight” from The Lion King, which has had over 6.5 million views.
Now living in Los Angeles, Reburn is a very modern musician. She counts herself as a true independent artist who can release music as and when she likes via YouTube, and reach people all around the world with her beautiful voice. Her performance of “Mr Sandman” is a reminder of how songs from long ago can still be revisited and reinterpreted to wonderful effect by each new generation that comes through.
