Anderson Cooper’s daytime TV talk show will not live to see a third season.
The CNN host’s talk show is a victim of the low ratings that have plagued it since its debut in fall 2011. Season to date through Oct. 16, Anderson is averaging 1.3 million viewers, down 20% from last fall. That compares with 4 million for top-rated Dr. Phil and 2.4 million for this season’s most-watched newcomer, Katie Couric.
“We are extremely proud of Anderson and the show that he and the entire production team have produced,” the show’s producer, Warner Bros.’ Telepictures, said in a statement. “While we made significant changes to the format, set and produced it live in its second season, the series will not be coming back for a third season in a marketplace that has become increasingly difficult to break through.”
Cooper, on assignment covering Hurricane Sandy, will focus on his CNN show, Anderson 360, and his contributing role at CBS’ 60 Minutes.
